What’s cooler than a cucumber? A cucumber snapped in a polaroid picture. (Now I’m not talking about the family album of a certain type of retailer in Soho…)
Its Jan 2009, and we all said ‘hurrae hurrah’ just 10 days ago. But was it all cheer and happiness? Not for me… as 2009 marks the end of the polaroid era. All the polaroid instant film processing factories are now vacant and lonely chasoms…
People who use polaroids are cool, no question. How do I know, let me explain..
Polaroid users are all swingers…
Hugh Laurie got one…
and so too do the muppets…
Looking through pictures of me and my sis growing up in the 80’s most of the pics have been captured on polaroid; me having dinner beside the TV, me in my Brownies uniform, my first day at school, me digging the world’s biggest hole in Blackpool 1988…its all there… and being printed on polaroid makes the memories even more special somehow. Its something to do with that lovely warm and glossy quality they exert, don’t you think? They make the world appear a little more …worldy?
Shouldn’t we have a blowout the mark the end of polaroid? Well yes we should, and yes there are some mighty keen groups out there still asking us to celebrate.
Polaroid Apocalypse are such a committee who have devised a fun website inviting all you instant camera whippers to send in your last orders…
Last summer Chicago, US hosted the Polaroid show and posted everything on myspace. They also have some groovy polaroid friends in their top 4 friends list so why not add and get a bit inspired by some of their exploits…
And how cute is this ‘make and do’ with a polaroid picture…
And here is some lovely polaroid art I discovered that I think is quite purty…

My advice?
Purchase as much polaroid film as you can from ebay now!!!!! The prices have shot up this past couple of months and its only gonna get more expensive… plus if you keep it in original pack in 300 yrs or so it will be an antique and you could make your distant nuclear holocaust and americanized family very happy…
Or you could just go polardroid, and get this nifty polaroid camera as an application on your computer . It turns all your jpgs into highly effective and cooler than cucumbers on a polaroid, polaroid.

Let’s get wrecked…

I’ve got some amazing polaroid pics taken on hols in 1999 that look like they’re from the 60’s – too cool by half.
Comment by rockpoolcandy January 12, 2009 @ 10:43 amAnd yeah, I miss the look and feel of polaroid pics, but not the orange ooze that leaks out of them onto your other prints, or the camera that needs a trolley to carry around on your hols.
Bittersweet.
